We got on this scenic parkway south of Nashville (where it begins/ends) and drove the entire length of it over 440 miles to Natchez Mississippi. We took two days to do this. All in all it is a beautiful highway, but in our opinion it falls short to the blue ridge parkway! There is a ton of history on this stretch of road however, some of which dates back to the time of christ which We thought was amazing. There were burial mounds from native americans and tucked away swamp lands. The burial mounds were all along the trace and dated back to the time of christ, it was awesome to look at them because most ancient man-made things I have seen have been removed from their original context or have been altered in some way. These mounds were the same as when they were created. To see them in the place they were created, how they were meant to exist always to mark the important dead was pretty neat. The Natchez trace parkway runs parallel (mostly) to the original trace route used first by animals then the natives who hunted them then by spanish explorers then by europeans and then as a mail route. Now what's left of the original trace is marked as trail. Aside from the huge mosquitos that leave dime size bites I really enjoyed the trace and would recommend it. For a moment we thought the car was going to blow up but luckily it was just a bit of water in the fuel tank and we seem to be running smoothly now- It would have been pretty bad to break down a week into the trip!
