Navajo Nation

This area is pretty desolate. It is interesting to drive through because there is little to no development leaving vast expanses of landfor the most part untouched. We were looking for a gas station for the majority of the drive and finally settled on a no name indian trading post. We were able to get gas, which is the most important part, but it wasn't cheap and the bathrooms smelled really bad. We drove on the outskirts of Monument Valley. Given more time we were going to go on an Indian guided tour. It was pretty cool just to drive on the outskirts though. We missed some of the famous monuments but we did see jutting sheer cliffs and some in odd shapes. My favorite looked similar to a temple and made me think of church. We were lucky enough to drive past this one as the sun was hitting it just right making the "temple" look golden and the rock behind it appear a rich red color. By the time we got closer and I took a picture the sun was already moving on so it looks darker and less majestic, but still pretty awesome. I hope you like the pictures. The monuments were similar to the painted desert with the layers of rock - but not all of them were colorful. The land here is really dry. The road was scattered with jewelry and craft stands but not much else. We did stop at four corners which is not so much a park as it is a raised slab that you pay to stand on. It was incredibly windy and dust kept blowing under and around my sunglasses managing to get in my eyes. We of course took a couple pictures standing in all four states. There "monument" was surrounded with booths but due to the heavy winds only a few were open. I looked at some of the jewelry which is usually really close to something I would like but just a little off. I like the turquoise and silver but sometimes they throw in too mach and it is either to flashy or to tribal for my taste. Well there was one that I really liked and Brad and I talked about buying it for Jessica (or me!) but it was $190 so we let it just sit there. Sorry Jess. Considering there wasn’t too much to see here we did not stay too long I don’t suppose anyone does.
